How to Take Measurements of the Human Skull

The different measurements of the shape and structure of the skull is called craniometry and is derived from anthropometry (measurement of the human body). A large bone anthropometer and a segmometer can be used in these measurements.

Place the arm of the large bone anthropometer on the upper orbital rim, sliding the second arm toward the most prominent back of the head. Read the measurement.

Place the arm of the anthropometer in the tragus and slide the second arm up to the most prominent top of the head. Read the measurement.

# 73 Tragus saddlepoint to back of the head

The head of the subject to be measured must be resting on the wall, taking into account the Frankfort plane. Place the segmometer tip in the tragus, sliding the second tip towards the wall, taking care that it is horizontal. Read the measurement.
