A skinfold caliper is an instrument used for the measurement of the thickness of a skinfold, which can be composed mainly by subcutaneous fat, this way, a skinfold caliper helps to calculate body fat percentage. Measuring skinfolds in key locations, can be a quite accurate representation of the total body fat.

How to Measure Skinfolds with a Caliper

Measurement of the skinfold should be done by taking the fold first with the index and thumb fingers and without removing them, place the caliper at 1 cm from the fingers, release the caliper dial and read the measurement.

In other places it is not advisable to try to take measurements yourself with the caliper since there are areas that cannot be reached and there are skinfolds that must be taken with a specific and adequate technique, otherwise wrong results will be obtained.
