Over time, the caliper's springs will weaken and product less pressure from the jaws, resulting in higher readings. While a calibration block will check that the dimensional reading is correct, the foam blocks and a quick, informal way to check the jaw pressure changes over time against a baseline reading.   For your baseline reading, ideally you'd check the pressure with a new (under 1 year old) skinfold caliper. Otherwise you can check it against our baseline readings of new skinfold calipers that we offer.
